Via Credit Union Awards Grants to Six Teachers
Via Credit Union and the Kids In Need Foundation awarded six grants totaling over $2,000 to local teachers for the funding of special classroom projects.  Over the years, ViaCU has funded 61 projects totaling over $27,000 to area teachers.

President/CEO, Dave Abernathy delivered the checks and offered congratulations to grant recipients.  The Kids In Need grants fund innovative classroom projects for which no other funding is available.  “Via Credit Union is proud to partner with the Kids in Need Foundation in funding these projects. School budgets are extremely tight and this partnership enables teachers to develop programs that would not exist without this financial help,” said Abernathy.
Grant winners competed with teachers from across the country for an opportunity to make their projects come alive in the classroom.  Local teachers used their grant money in various ways:
  • Vicki Curtis, Lakeview Christian School, purchased items for her students to make pet toys, blankets, etc then donate to the Marion-Grant County Humane Society.
  • Nicki Gosser, Westview Elementary, plans to start a butterfly garden to help pollinate the school’s vegetable garden.
  • Tim Kline, Lakeview Christian School, purchased a digital SLR camera for the school’s yearbook.
  • Marjorie Morgan, Lakeview Christian School, purchased yarn and plastic canvases materials to develop her student’s fine motor skills.
  • Rebecca Shrontz, Lakeview Christian School, purchased food for her enrichment class, Cooking.
  • Amanda Wolfe, Southside Elementary, purchased iPad minis for her students to expand their learning of reading and math.
