The Marion High School JROTC Raiders earned another win Saturday, remaining undefeated this season.

The Giants competed Saturday against 16 other teams from Indiana and Ohio during Concordia High School’s Raider Invitational hosted in Fort Wayne. The A Team (varsity) ended the day in first place. The B Team came in fourth. The Giants had four teams competing.

The seven-person co-ed teams competed in nine different events designed to test the strength, endurance and teamwork of the Raiders. Each team was required to compete with at least one female Raider.

“Our teams competed so well,” said retired Lt. Col. David Farlow, the team’s coach and senior Army instructor for the MHS JROTC. “We have faced several great teams this season. Our cadets just keep on striving for excellence.”

The Giants are undefeated this season in three major regional competitions, having bested 44 other teams thus far.

“I was very proud of our teams,” said MHS senior Audrey Dickerson, the Raider Team captain. “All the hard work is really paying off now.”

The A Team earned first-place finishes in three of the nine competitive events. In one of those events, the “Ruck-Run”, a two-mile run with 25-pound backpacks, the Giants finished nearly three minutes ahead of their closest competitors. The A team also placed second in three other events.

The Giants have one remaining regional competition, this Saturday at Hobart. This will be a difficult meet for the Giants as they have never won at Hobart.

The Giants will then compete for the JROTC Raider State Championship in Indianapolis on Oct. 27.

But the really big challenge on the horizon is the JROTC Raider National Championship in Molena, Ga., Nov. 2-4. There the Giants will face the top 100 teams from across the nation.

Individuals and organization can help to sponsor an MHS Raider to attend the National Championship by sending donations to the Marion HS JROTC HOOAH Parents, 750 W. 26th St., Marion, IN 46953.
