Indiana Wesleyan University’s Dr. Rob Thompson, director/associate professor for M.A. in Student Development Administration, has been selected as the 2019 recipient of the Don L. Boender Award for Distinguished Service.

The award, presented by the Association for Christians in Student Development, recognizes one individual annually for their outstanding contributions to ACSD and the field of student development. The Boender Award is designated for professionals with more than ten years of experience.

Thompson received the award last week at the ACSD Conference in Wheaton, Illinois.

“I was surprised… totally astonished,” said Thompson. “As I processed the moment, I was humbled by the kind words and organization's recognition as there are dozens who are more deserving.”

Thompson has worked at IWU since 1993. He has over 25 years of experience as an administrator in student development and has been a full-time faculty member for over ten years.

“I honestly believe you earn the right to speak into someone's life - and you can best do this by the application of counseling skills and techniques in order to establish, build and maintain relationships with those God brings into your life,” said Thompson. “The Division of Graduate Counseling has a great faculty and it is a special honor to serve with each of them. I have been blessed to serve in Christian higher education at an institution I love.”
