IU Kokomo students rewarded for academic excellence with honor society induction

Nearly 50 Indiana University Kokomo students were recognized for academic achievement in fields ranging from political science to sociology, and from radiologic sciences to communication arts, with their selection for national honor societies.

Phi of Indiana Chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta, the International Sociology Honor Society

Three students were inducted into the Phi of Indiana Chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta, the International Sociology Honor Society. They include:

  • Logansport: Serenity Maree Townsend
  • Rochester: Ashley Nicole Mojica
  • Westfield: Mattelynn Rose Cutler

Eligible students must be enrolled with a major or minor in a sociology program or a program sociological in nature, be a junior, rank in the top 35 percent of their graduating class in general scholarship, have the equivalent of a 3.0 GPA in sociology classes, and have completed at least four courses in sociology.

Beta Gamma Sigma

Twelve students were inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, an international honor society for business students. They include:

  • Amboy: Abby Heath
  • Colfax: Shea Hankins
  • Converse: Rachel Hayden
  • Fishers: Abdallah Alsalama
  • Gas City: Katelyn Layman
  • Indianapolis: Haley Hornaday
  • Kokomo: Simon Murray, Elise Vandeventer
  • Peru: Lyndsey Stewart, Jacob Dean Stoll
  • Wabash: Joshua Baker
  • Walton: Gannon Davis

Undergraduates must be in the top 10 percent of their class to be inducted, while graduate students must be in the top 20 percent. 

Indiana Gamma Chapter of Lambda Nu

  • Alexis Stark, Lafayette, was inducted into the Indiana Gamma Chapter of Lambda Nu Honor Society, which rewards academic excellence in the radiologic and imaging sciences.

To be considered for membership, students must have a minimum of a 3.30 GPA and be a current member of the Indiana Society of Radiologic Technology and the American Society of Radiologic Technology. Each must also be an active member of the campus Medical Imaging Club.

Lambda Pi Eta for Communication Arts

Three students were inducted into Lambda Pi Eta honorary for communication arts. They include:

  • Greentown: Isabel Correa, Madilen Guinn
  • Logansport: Leah Alder

Students must meet national criteria to be selected, including ranking within the highest 35 percent of one’s class in general scholarship, and having a minimum 3.25 GPA in communication studies classes.

Psi Chi, the International Honor Society for Psychology

Thirteen students were honored for excellence in psychology with induction into Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology. They include:

  • Avon: Stephanie Boninfante
  • Frankfort: Jordan Henderson
  • Kokomo: Abigail Clark, Chloe Conaway, Deron Hale, Alyssa Lorenz, Dani Sexton, Matthew Tuchscherer
  • Logansport: Madison Moore, Serenity Townsend
  • Noblesville: Jenna Waterman
  • Peru: Karlie Atkinson
  • Walton: Corbin Adams

Pi Sigma Alpha

Nine students were inducted into Pi Sigma Alpha National Honor Society for Political Science. They include:

  • Bedford: Bethany Peerman
  • Denver, Colorado: Neal Thurston
  • Gas City: Kyle Richards
  • Ironton, Ohio: A.J. Beam
  • Kokomo: Dylan Bryant, Quinn Jackson
  • Logansport: Sarahy Jimenez
  • Marion: Grayson Arndt
  • Peru: Josiah Pyke

Those selected must be in the top third of their class and have completed at least 10 credit hours of political science with at least a B average.

Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing

The School of Nursing and Allied Health Professions inducted five students into the Alpha chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. They include:

  • Brownsburg: Ava Allen
  • Flora: Lora Adams
  • Hartford City: Sandy Williamson
  • Kokomo: Adrienne McQuiston, Kristin Gingerich

To be selected, students must meet rigorous standards, including a program grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, rank in the top 35 percent of the graduating class, and meet the expectation of academic integrity.
