Academic Giants headed to state finals in math

The Marion High School Academic Giants are headed back to state finals!
With a third-place finish at the area Academic Super Bowl competition on April 17, the Giants earned a spot at the state competition, set for Saturday, May 4, at Purdue University. There, they will compete against six other schools in their division (Class 2). In total, 24 teams will compete in four divisions.
Academic Super Bowl invitationals consist of five subject matter rounds (English, science, social studies, mathematics, and fine arts) and a sixth interdisciplinary round. Each year a theme is selected, and questions at the competitions center around that topic. This year’s topic is “The 1980s and 1990s”. State competition will cover the same subjects; the Giants will compete only in the math portion at the finals.
This is the first appearance for the Giants at math state finals since 2018, and seventh since 2006.
Team members are seniors Nathaniel Aguila and Ryan Spitzer and juniors Austin Ferren and Damien Martin, and the team is coached by MHS teacher Doug Porter.
